The Wyoming Cowboys are famous for playing their home games at elevation and are hoping the word “elevated” can also be used to describe their offense.
The hiring of coach Jeff Linder has paid immediate dividends as entering Monday’s showdown with Boise State in Laramie, Wyoming rates 21st in the country in points per possession after being 337th in this category a season ago.
Boise State enters this game even more efficient on offense, ranking 16th among Division I teams in points per possession thanks in large part to winning battles on the boards, ranking 21st in rebound rate.
The Broncos, paced by Derrick Alston Jr.’s 17.8 points per game, should not have an issue scoring on a Wyoming defense that has given up at least 73 points in seven of its nine games. The only opponents that did not reach that mark were Mississippi Valley State and Denver, both among bottom 50 teams in points per possession.
With Wyoming rating in the eighth in the lowest percentage of its possessions that end in a turnover and Boise State 34th, both teams should have plenty of clean possessions and make the most of them.
The Play: Boise State-Wyoming 148.5, Over.
