This is how a total of 19 men’s teams, a formula that remains identical to that of this 2020 season, necessarily special, due to the coronavirus pandemic, which still continues to rage throughout the world today, as well as nine women’s groups have been officially registered by the UCI for this purpose. Among men, there are certain teams that are now appearing under new names. Among these, we can notably cite Team Qhubeka-Assos which takes the place of NTT Cycling Pro, of Intermarché-Wanty Gobert which recovers the license left vacant by the Poles of CCC, of Team DSM previously known as Sunweb. , or even Cycling GreenEdge, which follows the Australians of Mitchelton-Scott.
Three French teams present in the World Tour in 2021
For their part, the French are not left out. Indeed, three French teams will indeed be in the men’s first division of road cycling. These are AG2R-Citroën, Cofidis without forgetting Groupama-FDJ. As for these ladies, the Women’s World Tour will therefore now consist of nine units, with a new license which goes to the Dutch team SD Work. This is how all the names of the various lucky ones were indeed announced. These teams, which will now make up the most prestigious of the categories, have obtained this precious sesame, after examining the various ethical, financial and administrative criteria. Finally, as regards the second division of road cycling, the UCI ProTeam category, there will also be 19 teams in total.
