Wisconsin and Loyola Chicago have come out of the gates strong on offense this season. But at their core these are two defense-oriented teams that will be hooking up on Tuesday night in Madison, Wis.
The Ramblers are averaging 82.5 points per game against Division I competition and are converting 41.3 percent of their 3-point shots. However, they will face a Badgers defense that is allowing opponents to make just 29.9 percent of their 3-pointers.
That is higher than the average Loyola Chicago is allowing on defense as in three games opponents are making 26.9 percent of their 3-point shots against the Ramblers. This success will be put to the test, as Wisconsin enters the game with each of its top five scorers making at least 34.8 percent of their 3-pointers.
Both teams have yet to face defenses that give up as few points on a per possession basis as theirs as both rank in the top 35 of Division I in defensive efficiency.
With both teams also being in the bottom 70 in total possessions per game, the hot offensive starts for both teams should cool and lead to more of what we are accustomed to seeing from these perennially slow, methodical programs.
The Play: Wisconsin-Loyola Chicago total, Under 133 points.
