While Montpellier returned to a victory everywhere against Chaumont, AS Cannes got the best of Cambrai at the end of the tiebreak and validated his ticket for the final of the Men’s League A.
Eleven years later, AS Cannes will again play a men’s League A final. But, to achieve their ends, the players of Luc Marquet had to scramble to overcome the promoted Cambrai. Still not having any complex, the Cambrésiens started the match in an intense way, immediately taking the advantage in the score but, after coming back to height, the Cannois were able to sign several series to win the first set.
Led by the inevitable Daniel Cagliari (23 points), Cambrai raced in the lead from start to finish to return to a round everywhere before, despite a gap that never flew, to do the same in the third round . With a set to snatch a beautiful, the protégés of Gabriel Denys gave a hard time to AS Cannes but the players of the Alpes-Maritimes were able to come back to height and snatch a tiebreak.
Leading very early by two points, Cambrai quickly became disillusioned, conceding a 5-0 to allow Cannes to fly away to seal the fate of this semi-final (25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 30-28 , 15-12).
Montpellier stays alive
AS Cannes will however have to wait 24 more hours to know their opponent in the duel for the title scheduled for April 21 to 25. Indeed, after losing the first round on the floor of Chaumont, Montpellier was respected on its floor during the return match. The Chaumontois, feeling that a blow was possible, took the advantage from the first exchanges but the Héraultais very quickly regained their senses to go alone in this first set.
For a very long time, Olivier Lecat’s players were in the lead in the second set, but Jesus Herrera’s teammates (14 points) were able to find solutions to return to a round everywhere. A scenario that did not go far from recurring in a third set during which Ryan Sclater’s teammates (27 points) had a lead of up to five points, a gap that Chaumont was able to erase to afford a ball set but it was the Hérault club that took the ascendancy, which was confirmed in a one-sided end of the fourth round.
Montpellier equalizes in the series (25-17, 26-28, 30-28, 25-15) and will find this Sunday Chaumont on his floor for a beautiful of all dangers.
