Mikaela Shiffrin was able to ensure during the second round of the Flachau slalom to get her first victory in the slalom this season and her 100th podium in the World Cup.
Mikaela Shiffrin is back! After successfully completing her first round but without making a clear difference over her main rivals, the American did what was necessary under the snow falling on the night of Flachau to put an end to more than a year of scarcity in the slalom. However, the pressure was maximum on the American due to the supersonic passage of Katharina Liensberger. The Austrian, who has been talking about her consistency since the start of the season but is still looking for her first success, set the best time in the second round before seeing Petra Vlhova, who made too many mistakes, break her teeth on her time, then Wendy Holdener, weaned from the podiums this season, failed against her for a little less than three tenths. It was then that Mikaela Shiffrin showed up to close the start gate.
PODIUM NUMBER 100 FOR SHIFFRIN!
Starting with 33 hundredths ahead of Katharina Liensberger, the American first consolidated her lead at the first intermediate before, like all those who preceded her, losing almost two tenths of a second at the last intermediate. Solid on her skis and in her head, Mikaela Shiffrin did not crack and even took a little time to win with a margin of 19 hundredths of a second over the Austrian, who signs her fifth podium in as many slaloms this season. For the American, it’s a whole different bar that has been crossed since this victory is, quite simply, her 100th podium in the World Cup at only 25 years old. A second round which was marked by the comebacks of the Swiss Camille Rast, finally sixth, and Mélanie Meillard, who for a long time held the best time of the round and finished 13th. The only Habs competing and first to take to the track, Nastasia Noens was able to climb five positions to finish 25th.
