The Czech federation are certain that Cristiano Ronaldo has not scored more goals than Josef Bican.
Five goals with Sporting, 118 with Manchester United, 450 with Real Madrid, 85 goals with Juventus and 102 for the Portuguese team. Cristiano Ronaldo wrote a new page in his legend by scoring the 760th goal of his career on Wednesday night, against Napoli in the Italian Supercup.
This new achievement allows Ronaldo to become, for many, the top scorer of all time. But by everyone! Some statisticians believe that the record still belongs to Josef Bican. The former Slavia Prague striker would not have scored 759 goals, but 805 according to the tally made by Rec Sport Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF).
Bican indeed evolved in another time, between the years 1930 and 1950, at a time when the statistical data were less precise. But the Czech federation is certain, it lacks goals in its flagship. In particular, around fifty goals scored in Czech D2 with FC Hradec Králové in 1952-1953.

“The history and statistics committee of the Czech federation has counted all the goals scored by the legendary Josef Bican and we can say that he has scored 821 goals in official matches, she declared. Goals from matches in the first and second divisions, national cups, the Central European Cup and national team selections are included. On the contrary, friendly matches are not included in the statistics, with the exception of those of the national team. It can be said with the utmost seriousness that this is a number that corresponds to the current state of the possibility of verifying all data, so it is the most accurate number possible. “
So much for the Bican file. And there is also the Pelé myth. In the official match, the legendary Brazilian striker scored 757 goals, three less than Ronaldo. But that does not prevent the “King” from proclaiming himself the best scorer in history via his Instagram account, where he claims no less than 1283 goals. Including the many goals scored during exhibition matches.
