The Dark Knight hopes to rise in 2021 for the Baltimore Orioles and the team won Matt Harvey’s first start with the organization last week against the Boston Red Sox.
Harvey allowed two runs in 4 ²/₃ innings in a 4-2 win in his Baltimore debut over the weekend, which was his first appearance of more than three innings since the 2019 season. In four starts and three relief appearances with the Kansas City Royals last season, Harvey posted an 11.57 ERA with a 2.74 WHIP while allowing 20.8 hits and 4.8 home runs per nine innings.
When Harvey starts against the Red Sox on Thursday in Baltimore, Boston will counter with Eduardo Rodriguez, who will make his first start since a 2019 season in which he registered a 19-6 record with a 3.81 ERA, but led the league in walks. After so much time off, Rodriguez figures to be on a shorter leash than usual.
The Red Sox pitchers entered Wednesday with opponents hitting .266 off them, which ranked 25th in MLB. On offense, however, Boston was seventh in percentage of at-bats resulting in an extra-base hit.
Both pitchers are unlikely to go deep into this game and both teams have taxed bullpens because Thursday will be each team’s seventh consecutive day with a game, they both should be able to get their offenses rolling.
