PORTRAITS – After their historic podium this Sunday in Doha, the two French riders are the leaders of the upcoming MotoGP season.
The day of glory has come. For the first time in 67 years, two French people are on a podium in the premier motorcycle category. Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco even did better than Pierre Monneret and Jacques Collot (1er and 3e at the French Grand Prix in Reims in 1954) by taking the first two places in the second Doha Grand Prix, second round of the season on the MotoGP calendar. A moment out of time for the two men, hilarious on the podium when the notes of The Marseillaise resounded.
“It was great to both be on the podium. During the national anthem, I was very moved, almost in tears, but Johann made me laugh.
