INTERVIEW – They grew up dreaming of the Olympics, before shining there. The president of the organizing committee for the Paris 2024 Olympics and one of the headliners of the France team in Tokyo share their memories and their projects.
Family stories, golden stories, stories of water, the common points between Tony Estanguet (gold medalist of the Olympic Games in canoe in 2000, 2004 and 2012) and Florent Manaudou (Olympic swimming champion over 50 m in 2012 ) are many. The occasion was beautiful and the desire shared for a long-form discussion about the Games which, like magnets, guided their lives. By videoconference between Saint-Denis, seat of the organizing committee for the Paris 2024 Games and Marseille, stronghold of the swimmer, who was perfecting his preparation for Tokyo, emotions, disappointments, pleasure, fear, doubts, drunkenness , sharing and the podiums came to the surface.
LE FIGARO: What is your first memory of the Games?
Florent MANAUDOU.- The first Games I saw were those in Sydney, in 2000. I especially remember swimming, the fights between legendary swimmers, like Popov and Van den Hoogenband, I had also watched judo with David Cozy, fencing. I was 9 years old.
