The French Juliette Labous finished 9th in the women’s time trial of the Olympic Games. Dutch Ammeniek Van Vleuten triumphed.
Silver medalist two days earlier in the women’s road race of these Olympic Games, Ammeniek Van Vleuten had caused a lot of laughter. When crossing the finish line alone, the Dutchwoman had celebrated her end of the race as an Olympic champion that she was not because a candidate forgotten by the whole peloton, the Austrian Anna Kiesenhofer, s’ had already won the Olympic title a minute and fifteen seconds earlier. This Wednesday, Ammeniek Van Vleuten did not experience such a mishap.
A great stopwatch, Labous far behind
Favorite of the time trial race, the Batave completed the 22.1 kilometer route in 30:13:49 fully assuming its status. She crushed the competition, relegating for example her runner-up, the Swiss Marlene Reusser, to almost a minute (+56 seconds). Van Vleuten’s compatriot, Anna Van der Breggen, is for her part a bronze medalist thanks to the 3rd fastest time recorded at the finish (+1: 01.63). The only Frenchwoman in this event, Juliette Labous, obtained the 9th time, far behind Van Vleuten with a delay of +2: 28.65.
