The new Mets front office will have a decidedly Red Sox flavor to it.
Zack Scott, who spent the past 17 seasons in Boston, was hired Wednesday as a senior vice president and assistant general manager under new GM Jared Porter. Earlier this month, Porter, who was with the Red Sox organization for three World Series titles, was hired as Mets president Sandy Alderson’s top officer in baseball operations.
Scott, who was a finalist for the job that went to Porter, spent the past two years as Red Sox assistant GM, overseeing analytics, baseball systems and advance and professional scouting.
“I’ve known Zack for over 15 years and worked daily with him for 10 of those years,” Porter said in a statement. “He’s a strong leader who is a very creative and dynamic thinker. Zack is well-rounded in all areas of baseball operations and will promote synergy and collaboration among all our departments with an emphasis on research and development.”
Scott, 43, graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in mathematics and joined the Red Sox in 2004.
“Being a part of the Mets’ new culture and helping establish a consistent winner on the field that the Mets fan base deserves is something I will work toward tirelessly,” Scott said.
Alderson is rebuilding a front office that was gutted upon his arrival. The departed included GM Brodie Van Wagenen, assistant GMs Allard Baird and Adam Guttridge, special assistant Omar Minaya and director of player development Jared Banner.
