Feb. 23—Wrestling regionals have come and gone, and several local athletes qualified for the state tournament set for this weekend at Jim Norick Arena in Oklahoma City.

Claremore hosted the Class 5A East Regional on Saturday, and in addition to five Zebras advancing, athletes from Collinsville and Pryor saw success as well.

Claremore finished sixth of 15 teams with 134 points, landing four regional champions. Collinsville won the top prize with 276.5 points thanks to six regional titles while Pryor came in fourth with 162 points.

The top five wrestlers in each weight class advance to the state tournament.

Claremore’s Aiden Boyd won the 120-pound division, defeating Tanner Cousatte of Pryor via a 14-4 major decision. Hudson Henslick of Collinsville placed third.

Kaden Stanley reigned supreme in the 138 division, besting Glenpool’s Jace Ellis in a 6-4 sudden victory. Garrett Strickland of Collinsville came in fourth.

Ashton Stevenson was the next Zebra to pick up a regional title, besting Collinsville’s Wyatt Hartley in the 170 division via a 4-0 decision. Pryor’s Ethan Chavez came in fourth.

BK Seago claimed the fourth championship for Claremore, toppling Brayden Gilkey of Collinsville in a 3-2 decision for the 182-pound crown.

Claremore’s Kearanie Johnson claimed a regional title as well earlier this month in girls wrestling, winning the 127 division over Stella Edison of Glenpool via a fall in 3 minutes, 6 seconds. Owasso’s Sidney Milligan and Mishael Bynum of Inola also advanced to the girls state tournament with second- and fourth-place finishes in the 185 and 215 divisions, respectively.

For Collinsville, Canon Acklin (106), Clay Gates (113), Cole Brooks (126), Cameron Steed (132), Drake Acklin (145) and Jordan Williams (152) won regional titles. Henslick (120), Strickland (138), Hartley (170), Gilkey (182), Gabe Lyon (195) and Zach Morris (220) advanced as well in their respective divisions.

Caden Felts claimed Pryor’s lone regional win with a 2-1 tiebreaker finish against Collinsville’s Morris in the 220-pound division. James Peach (106), Jayden Mathis (113), Cousatte (120), Brunk Gray (126), Bryce Kegley (132), Chavez (170) and Conner Dicarlo (195) earned top-five finishes as well to move on.

In the Class 3A East Regional at Blackwell, Jose Flores of Inola claimed the 152-pound title over Perry’s Kaleb Owen in an 11-6 decision. Grant Floyd (120) and Dalton Diacon (220) finished as runner-ups in their divisions while Jedd Barrett took third at 182 pounds.

Oologah and Catoosa experienced success on the mat as well in Skiatook at the Class 4A East Regional.

Chase Bynum (132), Blake Salt (160) and Gabe Grazier (285) secured spots at the state tournament for the Mustangs. Clinching spots for the Indians were Joshua Esquivel (106), Guy Clevenger (113), Corban Zugelder (120), Caleb Spencer (170), Danny Rowe (220) and Chris Gutierrez (285).

Clevenger won the 113 division after pinning Dakotah Allen of Cushing in 4:31.

Meanwhile, Owasso competed in the Class 6A East Regional at Broken Arrow.

Tyler Rick pinned Broken Arrow’s Mitchell Banning in 4:48 to win the 285-pound weight class while Bryson Humphries (106), Jaxson Humphries (113), Zeke Wheeler (120) and Braxton Bacon (160) each advanced to the state tournament in their divisions.

The state tournament will be held from Feb. 25-27, beginning with the girls on Thursday. Classes 4A and 5A will compete on Friday, followed by classes 3A and 6A on Saturday.
