The Jets reached a deal with second-round draft pick Elijah Moore, the team announced Wednesday night.
The four-year slotted deal is worth $8.94 million, including a $3.86 million signing bonus, and the rookie wide receiver’s contract will include full guarantees in years 1-3, according to ESPN reports.
The deal for Moore — the 34th-overall pick out of Mississippi in the April draft — means top pick Zach Wilson is the only Jets rookie who remains unsigned.
Moore, 21, led all FBS receivers in two key receiving stats, with 10.8 catches per game and 149.1 yard per contest — despite opting out of the final two games of the 2020 season.
The 5-foot-9, 178-pound Moore, who was a first-team All-SEC selection last season, finished with a school-record 86 receptions for 1,193 yards and 16 touchdowns.
“He’s dynamic,” Robert Saleh said in a statement to Jets.com. “When he gets the ball in his hands, he becomes something different. His ability to separate on routes, run the jet sweeps, come out of the backfield — he’s extremely versatile. I’m ecstatic he was able to get to us. There’s not a lot of things he can’t do.”
Moore also had an Odell Beckham-like moment last season with Ole Miss. He cost the Rebels the 2019 Egg Bowl after he was penalized for celebrating a touchdown by crawling and pretending to urinate like a dog. After the 15-yard penalty, kicker Luke Morgan missed a 35-yard extra point and Ole Miss lost 21-20 to rival Mississippi State.
Beckham struck a similar pose in a 27-24 Giants loss to the Eagles in 2017.
Moore said after the draft that he learned “countless things” from that incident.
“You have to learn how to be a man and when emotions get high and situations get hot, just to be under control,” Moore said. “You’ve got to best believe that moving forward that being in that position again, I’m going to think about that.
“It’s definitely a blessing in disguise. I probably got more out of it, and I would never change it for the world. If I had to do it all over again, I would, if I would understand that I would be in the position I’m in now.”
