For the first time in NFL history, a player has a chance to play in back-to-back playoff games – for two different teams.
The Green Bay Packers signed veteran offensive tackle Jared Veldheer to their roster on Monday, according to ESPN. The move came just two days after Veldheer appeared in an NFL playoff game for the Indianapolis Colts.
He started at left tackle in the Colts’ 27-24 loss to the Bills on Saturday, but was a member of the team’s practice squad and was only called up for the game, not signed to their 53-man roster. For that reason, the Packers were able to sign him straight to their roster. He can join the team right away, as he had undergone COVID-19 testing with Indianapolis.
Veldheer started for the Packers in the 2019 divisional round, after Bryan Bulaga came down with an illness. The Packers lost Pro Bowl tackle David Bakhtiari to a torn ACL before Week 17, and have been starting Billy Turner in his place. Right tackle Rick Wagner has also been dealing with a knee injury.
Veldheer will likely enter the game as a backup, but if he gets into the game, he will be the first player in league history to play in postseason games for two different teams.
