How Vulnerable Are Australian Businesses To Power Blackouts in 2020?

The year 2020 has proved to be a financial nightmare for most industries and a complete shutdown for some. As the year finally approaches its end, the industries have finally had the opportunity to gauge the damage incurred during the best part of 300 days, the results have ranged from underwhelming to downright disastrous.

However, while the year was severe for the majority of the world, the Australian population would particularly like to erase 2020 from their memory, given the trail of never-ending calamities that the common masses have to endure. First the violent wildfires, then the global pandemic, and that was topped with mass-spread power blackouts throughout the country caused by different factors.

In 2020, already struggling Australian businesses were further scarred by extended power outages, and their trend seemed to be getting worse even before the COVID-19 pandemic. As a country touted to be in the reckoning for world global leaders in the near future, our energy grid does seem to let us down quite often.

It’s no rocket science than in order to tread a path of economical growth, the country must first empower its energy production/supply grid, but that, unfortunately, hasn’t been the case for Australia. Not that long ago, businesses and households were commended for using renewable or alternative energy systems such as windmills, hydro-turbines, solar cells, etc. to power their premise, but for many of the users, the change was made out of necessity and not out of choice.

For the country to grow, the industries need a reliable, sturdy, long-lasting, and affordable backup power system that can elevate their level of production and safeguard their resources & employees from the consequences of a massive power blackout. To fulfil that role, diesel generators stand apart from the rest, and their exceptional characteristics make the decision look sound.

In this article, we are going to look at the current state of our local energy grids, what the future beholds, and what possible solutions we may have to sustain the required power supply in case the blackouts continue to get grimmer.

# The Current Climate Of Energy Production:-

According to researchers, Australia’s energy system is on a highly evolutionary path and can be successfully driven by timely investment in energy infrastructure. The path is quite confusing and doubtful due to the direct intervention of Australia’s Government, which creates the risk of disorderly transition towards the futuristic plot.

Apart from this, Policymakers will have to face a crucial challenge on who should lead on specific issues as in Australia; energy policy is a state-level liability with the Council of Australian Governments ensuring broader coordination across the multiple governments and market bodies.

Australia has a mixture of renewable energy points and aspirations with different measures of change in the generation mix, which is expected over the next 20 plus years. Some of these aspirations are enacted while others are not, which adds up to the ambiguity.

# Plans For The Future:-

South Australia is already considered by a majority of people to be a global renewable ‘superpower’ with greater than half of its generation coming from renewable sources. It is expected that the period required by Australia to achieve these aspirations is almost greater than or equal to 20 years.

The Australian Government is intending to produce two new coal power plants. Still, the dominant companies and banks are not accepting this plan as they are working in the direction of reducing dependence on polluting energy sources.

If the government is able to devise a workable strategy, the futuristic electricity system in Australia will look like:-

  1. a) Changing the focus: In the future, the main source of our electricity will come from alternative sources. A study says that wind and solar electricity can be primary leaders for completing the need for electricity in the coming future.

  1. b) Expansion of the generator industry:With an increasing culture of WFH, even the residents will need a reliable source of power. Merely depending on public resources will not be any good. Diesel Generators for residential purposes will be a smart investment.

  1. c) Laying out the foundation across the continent: Despite being a large continent, the wind blows the same in every part of Australia. Solar and wind plants can be spread over the whole continent to provide electricity overall.

  1. d) Off-grid systems: It is compact and easy to handle so that all can get benefit: For example, solar panels are compact and are very handy. So, a typical person can also put it on his home’s rooftop. It means a solar panel on every person’s rooftop and every commercial buildings’ rooftop.

# Alternative Energy Sources For The Future:-

In the coming future, we will have to use electricity more efficiently as the backup of electricity will be very important. The use of electricity will be very dynamic in the future as when the sun shines, and the wind blows, the electronic machine can be used to send a signal to store the battery. And when the winds blow low or the sun shades away then it will give a signal to turn on the batteries.

By doing this change, it will also help a lot in reducing pollution and improving climate quality. During the extreme weather conditions, rural and urban households still have a backup of six to twelve hours of backup electricity with them in Australia.

# The Solution:-

As the population continues to increase, it’s a given that so will our energy demands. Therefore, it makes sense to invest in a backup generator as it is the best mitigation strategy one may have against the impending disaster of an outage.

We are yet a fair few decades away from potently harnessing the best output from an off-grid system such as a solar cell, not to mention that these systems are extremely complicated to install, and not pocket-friendly to operate. Plus, most off-grid backup generators are not immune to changing weather conditions, which is why they can’t be fully relied upon during testing times.

On the other hand, diesel generators prove to be the most reliable backup gensets, and their operation is as affordable as it gets. Ensuring the delivery of your desired model from the best suppliers will further guarantee a maximum power output, and this is exactly what we at Able Sales guarantee to all our customers.
