The Italian sprinter from Cofidis underwent a small operation to correct a heart problem. His start to the season is not in question.
After a very difficult first season under the colors of the Cofidis team (0 victory in 68 days of racing), Elia Viviani had a small hitch at the start of 2021.
“After an internship with the team, I went to train in Italy. Last Sunday I felt a problem with my heartbeat, explains the Italian sprinter in a press release from his team. With my personal doctor, we decided to carry out a complete check-up in the Ancona clinic. After these tests, I underwent a light operation which was successful. I am very happy to have identified the problem and to move forward. From now on, we will have to observe these two weeks of rest before resuming training and looking to the new season. And my motivation is intact! ”
Despite these two weeks of forced shutdown, Viviani still intends to be at the start of the first World Tour race of the season, the Tour of the United Arab Emirates, on February 21.
