MEP Raphaël Glucksmann welcomes Antoine Griezmann’s decision to end his lucrative partnership with Huawei.
It was last December. Antoine Griezmann had made the decision to end his partnership with the company Huawei, of which he had been the ambassador since 2018. The reason? The alleged links between the phone company and the actions of the Chinese government towards the Uyghurs.
Faced with these serious accusations, Griezmann had decided to act. “Following strong suspicions that the Huawei company has contributed to the development of a ‘Uyghur alert’ thanks to facial recognition software, I announce that I am putting an immediate end to my partnership linking me to this company”, explained the striker of the France team in a post relayed on social networks.
An important message
Griezmann was questioned on the subject by MEP Raphaël Glucksmann, who welcomes the reaction of the world champion. ” In the hours that followed, explains Glucksmann to France TV, he announced the termination of his contract with Huawei – which is a gesture, frankly, extremely rare. “ And not at all trivial financially, since Griezmann touched 5 million euros per year for this partnership.
But the Barcelonan clearly wanted to send an important message to him. “I take this opportunity to invite Huawei not to content itself with denying these accusations but to take concrete actions as quickly as possible to condemn this mass repression and to use its influence to contribute to respect for human rights and woman in society ”, he had indicated.
