Christmas will not have changed anything for Petra Vlhova, she is still not satisfied. At the top of the overall World Cup standings, the Slovakian set the fastest time in the first round of the giant slalom at Semmering, the first race organized after Christmas. In Austria, she achieved a remarkable time that gave her more than two tenths of lead over Marta Bassino, her first chaser. This is an interesting advantage before the second round scheduled for the afternoon. The Swiss Michelle Gisin completes the provisional podium.
Tessa Worley, bib number 1 but seventh time
At mid-term, the gaps are already significant in the ranking of the last giant slalom of the year 2020. This is explained by the strong wind which turned on the bottom of the track but also by an injected track which quickly deteriorated. . The excuse of degradation does not hold for Tessa Worley who had started in first. With her number 1 bib, the Frenchman achieved a reference time which was quickly improved. Even though Petra Vlhova was 1.60 better than her, the native of Annemasse remained in the top 10 with a seventh place. She can still hope to finish on the podium in a race where she is usually successful (5 podiums at Semmering for her). Another skier who is used to shining near Vienna, Mikaela Shffrin finished fourth with a time six tenths slower than that of Vlhova. The second round scheduled for 1 p.m. could offer many twists and turns. And why not a nice comeback for Coralie Frasse Sombet, 15th in the first round. The third French skier entered this Monday, Doriane Escane, saw her day end in the morning with a 41st place.
