The Arizona Cardinals need to keep winning to stay in control of their spot in the playoffs they currently have. They face the San Francisco 49ers Saturday afternoon, a team they beat in Week 1 and a team who is missing many key players on both sides of the ball because of injuries.
How will this game play out?
We have expert picks and predictions from me, Niners Wire managing editor Kyle Madson and the AZCentral Sports crew of Bob McManaman and Katherine Fitzgerald.
Jess Root, Cards Wire: Cardinals 31, 49ers 17
Both teams are banged up. I think the Niners are scary, although we know that with C.J. Beathard an QB, it feels hopeless. I expect some fight but I believe the Cardinals offense will be too much. The Niners rally late but will fall 31-17.
Kyle Madson, Niners Wire: Cardinals 45, 49ers 10
The Cardinals win behind a huge day from Murray against an uninspired 49ers pass rush and a depleted secondary. CJ Beathard is starting at quarterback with Cardinals legend Josh Rosen working as his backup, so it’s hard to imagine a huge day from a San Francisco offense that struggles to hold onto the football.
Bob McManaman, AZ Central Sports: Cardinals 34, 49ers 16
The Cardinals can’t afford a screwup here. You’ve got to win and hope the Bears lose and you’re in the playoffs Sunday. But if you lose this game, you’re screwed. And the Cardinals can’t have one of those twice-a-season moments where they come in jacked up and then the play just goes right down the drain. Just beat this dang team and enjoy it. I think they’re going win in a rout.
Katherine Fitzgerald, AZ Central Sports:
The Cardinals can’t look ahead past this game. I don’t they do. I think they do as well. I think they get the win and go from there. Listen to the latest from Cards Wire’s Jess Root on his podcast, Rise Up, See Red. Subscribe on Apple podcasts or Spotify. Latest show:
