Mar. 4—Valley and Drums will meet for the Anthracite League girls’ basketball championship.
The two teams punched their ticket to Monday’s title game with semifinal victories at Wednesday evening’s double-header at Maple Manor.
Valley used a big fourth quarter to surge past Freeland 30-23 in one semifinal. In the other, Drums raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 31-18 victory over Hazleton.

Valley inched out to a 9-5 halftime lead, holding Freeland scoreless in the second quarter.
But the Lady Whippets fought back with a 13-7 third quarter, taking an 18-16 lead.
However, the fourth belonged to the Lady Eagles. Sophia Shults scored seven of her game-high 15 points, and Alexis Reimold went 4-for-4 at the line in a 14-5 final-quarter push to secure the win.
Valley went 8-for-11 at the foul line in the fourth quarter en route to the berth in Monday’s final.
Reimold backed Shults’ 15 points with 12, going 6-of-6 at the foul line in the process.
Milena Chicalese scored eight points — all in the second half — and had both of her team’s 3-pointers for Freeland. Taylor Eberts and Kylee Forschner each scored six.

Jill Scherbaty socred eight of her 10 points and Olivia Williams four of her nine in the first quarter, as Drums opened with a 14-5 lead and went on to the decisive victory.
Ella Radice and Melina Gregory both added four points for the winners.
Cali Jurus paced the Castle with eight points, Megan Darraugh scored six on two 3-pointers, and Yesilin Gonzalez finished with four.
