Deshaun Watson quoted Future on his Twitter account Tuesday, perhaps shedding some light on his future with the Houston Texans.
The unhappy star quarterback has been the subject of trade speculation since the regular season ended, landing on the back page of The Post earlier this week as a suggested trade target of the Jets. Watson’s official Instagram account even “liked” a screenshot of the “WATever It Takes” headline, which was posted by Yonkers entrepreneur Wayne Schneider.
“I been trying to have some patience, I told my momma she should pray on it,” Watson tweeted, quoting the rapper Future’s 2014 song “Codeine Crazy.”
The 25-year-old Watson appeared increasingly impatient with the Texans earlier this month over owner Cal McNair and vice president of football operations Jack Easterby not following through on promises to give him input in decisions to fill the organization’s coaching and general manager openings after the firing of Bill O’Brien in October.
Houston hired New England Patriots player personnel director Nick Caserio as their new GM on Jan. 7, reportedly without consulting Watson.
The Texans announced Monday they have completed interviews with Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Ravens assistant head coach David Culley and Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. They also previously had met with Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady, former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell and former Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis.
Watson has not officially requested a trade, according to Pro Football Talk, but the Jets are armed with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft among four first-rounders in the next two years.
Watson also comes with a reasonable cap charge of just $15.94 million next season, although it is scheduled to balloon to $40.4 million and $42.4 million the following two years.
