Winner of his first special, Stéphane Peterhansel widened the gap on Nasser Al-Attiyah at the head of the Dakar.
In the fight since the start of the Dakar with Nasser Al-Attiyah, Stéphane Peterhansel has taken an advantage which could prove to be definitive on Tuesday. The Mini driver won the 9th special, his first this year, while the Toyota driver lost twelve minutes after getting lost and having a flat tire twice. Peterhansel now has 17’50 on the Qatari in the general classification, while there are only three specials left to go. Behind, the gap widens even more since the third, Carlos Sainz, points to more than an hour, after stopping because of a punctured wheel and then to repair a faulty brake. The Toyotas are three three in the Top 5 this Tuesday (Al-Attiyah, De Villiers and Al Rajhi) but it is indeed a Mini that seems very close to winning this Dakar 2021!
