Top college football expert predictions for bowl on Dec. 22
One of Sallee’s top college football picks for bowl action on Dec. 22: He likes the under 72.5 points in the matchup between No. 16 BYU and Central Florida at 7 p.m. ET. Both teams are known for their offense. The Cougars averaged 43 points per game, while the Knights put up 44.3. They’re led by 3,000-yard passers with Zach Wilson putting up huge numbers for BYU and Dillon Gabriel doing the same for UCF.
But Sallee notes that UCF’s defense has shown some improvement late in the season. BYU, meanwhile, averaged just 22.5 points per game in its last two games of the season.
“It’s easy to look at this game and think ‘oh, BYU and UCF can light it up offensively — the over is a slam dunk,'” Sallee told SportsLine. “UCF finished sixth in the AAC in defensive yards per play over the final month-plus of the season, and BYU’s offense has tailed off a bit over the last couple of games. This will be more of a battle in the trenches than oddsmakers think.”
