The Cofidis group announced on Thursday that it will continue its commitment to cycling for the next four seasons, i.e. until the end of 2025.
AG2R-Citroën until the end of 2025, Groupama-FDJ until the end of 2024… and Cofidis until the end of 2025! The third French team present in the World Tour has also decided to make a long-term commitment. The online credit group indeed announced this Thursday that it was extending the adventure in cycling for the next four seasons, which will therefore make at least 24 years of presence in the pelotons, the team having made its appearance in 1997. The current lease of the training directed by Cédric Vasseur ran until the end of 2022.
“Combativeness, team spirit, solidarity, collective effort, which are essential concepts within the team, are also conveyed on a daily basis within our companies. For our group, the team has a major impact on the general public in terms of notoriety, image and communication ”, welcomes Thierry Vittu, President of Cofidis Competition.
Great ambitions for the future
The cycling team will benefit from a budget increase of 1.5 million euros per year. “With this horizon 2025, a new phase of development will begin. It offers stability and allows us to start a new era in which we will strive to be more ambitious ”, is delighted for his part Cédric Vasseur, general manager since October 2017. The northern team, which already includes Guillaume Martin and Elia Viviani, therefore hopes to attract other top names in the future. This year, it has only won two victories, thanks to Viviani on Cholet – Pays de la Loire and Christophe Laporte on a stage of the Etoile de Bessèges.
The Red and Whites’ dream is obviously to return to success in the Tour de France. While Cofidis had won ten stages between 1997 and 2008, it has not won anything for thirteen years, and the success of Samuel Dumoulin and Sylvain Chavanel! In addition, the Cofidis group announced on Thursday that it was continuing its commitment to the disabled sports team and that it would create a women’s team from next season (around 1 million euros in annual budget). It will play in Continental, the second division.
