Montpellier won 26-21 against the Glasgow Warriors in the round of 16 of the Challenge Cup and will face Treviso or Agen next weekend.
Long entangled in the bottom of the Top 14 and forced to change coach, Montpellier is better (eight points ahead of the penultimate, Pau) and can afford to play the European Cup thoroughly, even if it is only the Challenge Cup. The MHR, which won the competition in 2016, can dream of a beautiful continental epic, and will see at least the quarter-finals, thanks to his 26-21 victory over the Glasgow Warriors, fourth in the Pro 14.
Only one try came to brighten up the first half. In the 38th minute, Guilhem Guirado appeared after a ball carried consecutive to a touch on the right side. Alex Lozowski scored the points at the foot of the MHR and Adam Hastings those of the Warriors (13-9, mt). The second half started in the best possible way for Montpellier, who scored his second try of the game by Anthony Bouthier, who went to score between the posts after a superb overflow from Vincent Rattez left side.
Indiscipline marked the end of this match, with two yellow cards for Montpellier, for Bastien Chalureau in the 50th and for Martin Devergie in the 73rd, and a red card for TJ Ioane for a high tackle on Yvan Reilhac in the 58th and a yellow for Nick Griggs in the 76th. Lozowski continued his festival at the foot, with eight points scored, and Montpellier finally won by five points. In the quarter-finals, the MHR will again receive, and will start a priori favorite, against Treviso or Agen.
