Real Madrid suffered the law of Athletic Bilbao on Thursday night in the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup (1-2).
While waiting for the final of the Copa del Rey 2020 – postponed to next April 4 while Athletic and the Real Sociedad gave up this ultimate clash last season, for lack of spectators in the stadiums – the Bilbao club is holding another final: that of the Spanish Supercup!
This Thursday evening, the Basques played a funny trick on real Madrid, holding the trophy missed out on his semi-final and thus deprived of Clasico at the top, next Sunday for the title. Quickly surprised by Raul garcia (0-1, 18e), the Merengues were unable to respond and even saw the latter double the stake before the break, on a penalty conceded by Lucas Vazquez (0-2, 38e).
Barça-Bilbao in the final
If Zinedine Zidane’s men were more enterprising after returning from the locker room – Asensio in particular – Athletic held on. Including after the reduction of the gap obtained by an opportunist and combative Benzema (1-2, 73e). Bilbao therefore joins the FC Barcelona, striker the day before Real Sociedad on penalties (1-1, 3 tab to 2), for a Sunday gala poster. And a first trophy this season.
