ASVEL announced Thursday the arrival of Michel Veyronnet (63) as sports director, abandoned by François Lamy, who left for Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania). The Norman technician comes from the Rouen club, where he had held the same functions since 2016.
ASVEL has its new sports director. François Lamy left for Lithuania, at Zalgiris Kaunas (coincidence of the calendar, ASVEL will launch its season in Euroleague against the new club of Lamy on October 1), the double French champion in title had launched in search of his substitute. The Villeurbanne club did not take long to announce the latter’s name. And it will be Michel Veyronnet (63), who had held the same functions at the Rouen club since 2016. Originally from Normandy like Tony Parker and Gaëtan Muller, the two strong men of ASVEL, Veyronnet, beyond his role as assistant to Vincent Collet in the French team in the early 2000s, coached Evreux (from 1993 to 1995) and Rouen (1996 to 2012) before becoming sports director. At the end of the 2007-2008 season, the technician who can boast of having raised his teams three times (including Rouen twice) in the elite had also been named coach of the year. “With more than thirty years of experience in professional basketball, he will ensure the link between the management, the sports staff and the players, and will manage the administrative part of the professional team”, tells us the press release published on Thursday by ASVEL and its emblematic president, delighted that Veyronnet has agreed to join the Rhône.

“I am very happy that Michel joined the project that we are building here, I know the desire to succeed which has always been part of him,” says Tony Parker. I have known Michel for over 25 years, and his ability to listen, adapt and his professionalism, so essential in this pivotal role, will be key elements. »A pleasure shared by the deputy chairman Gaëtan Muller, who also knows his new sports director very well, and for good reason. “It’s a great story to be able to recruit Michel today, he who allowed me, with Tony Parker Senior, to be spotted when I started out in basketball near Rouen. His experience, managerial skills and sense of communication are all assets that convinced us. It is now up to Veyronnet to meet the expectations of the tandem.
