It is being confirmed: Mamadou Sakho is going to make his return to France. The former Liverpool player will soon engage with Montpellier.
It should be one of the great stories of the summer transfer window. Eight years after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Mamadou Sakho will make his return to Ligue 1. The hero of the France-Ukraine dam in 2013 is about to sign up with Montpellier. The signing, expected for several weeks, should take place this weekend or at the very beginning of next week, indicates L’Equipe.
At the end of the contract, Sakho therefore chose to leave England to return to his country. After three seasons at Liverpool, he played for five years at Crystal Palace. Last season, the often injured 31-year-old defender had to make do with four Premier League appearances.
The arrival of the French international (29 caps) will do the MHSC good in a sector of the game where the Hérault club appears helpless at the moment: Daniel Congré and Vitorino Hilton have left, and Pedro Mendes is seriously injured at the end of last season.
