Taysom Hill just one facet of NFL QB fantasy football chaos

There is nothing worse than unrest at a position in fantasy football at this time of year. This week and the next two are Mission: Critical for many, as the battle for playoff spots intensifies.

When you find yourself scrambling for last-minute replacements, it can be both unsettling and frustrating, especially when that scrambling revolves around the quarterback position.

Let’s begin in New Orleans, where Saints coach Sean Payton threw the ultimate monkey wrench at us when he announced Taysom Hill would be his starting quarterback this week, not Jameis Winston. Those who stream the position just wasted what was left of their free-agent budget on a guy who isn’t supposed to take an offensive snap this week against one of the worst pass defenses in the league.

To add insult to injury, those who own Michael Thomas or any other Saints pass-catchers now have to worry about what kind of drop-off in production they need to expect.

The situation in Detroit is also tenuous, as Matthew Stafford has a partially torn ligament in his thumb, which he is expected to try and play through. Can you trust him this week? What about his receivers? Alternatives need to be ready, not just because Stafford may not finish the game, but what about his level of accuracy?

It’s no different in Denver with Drew Lock attempting to play through a rib and core-muscle injury. He struggled so much last week, it makes you think twice about using him, Jerry Jeudy or Noah Fant this week.

Amid all that doom and gloom, we can find one bright spot in Carolina, as P.J. Walker takes over for the injured Teddy Bridgewater. The former AAF and XFL star played his college ball at Temple under Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, and his primary receiver was current teammate Robby Anderson. He knows the system and has a built-in rapport. Rub your eyes all you want, this is still the brightest spot of this quarterback calamity.

Winning at fantasy football requires you to roll with the punches. It’s time to start rolling. The fantasy gods are swinging.
